More Miku!

Sorry haven't posted something lately, I'm really busy lately >.<

At first Yamaha did not intent to make vocaloid anime related in any way, they wanted Computer synthesized singing voices, but no singer wanted do sell it's voice so Crypton Future Media had to ask voice actors, which explains why most Vocaloids sound like anime characters.
For marketing purposes the artist KEI designed anime-style avatars for each vocaloid.
(If you look up Vocaloid, you'll find out that there are many more Vocaloids, I decided to concentrate on Crypton's Miku, Rin, Len, Luka and Meiko since they're the most popular and successful ones)

Kagamine Rin & Len

About 5 months after Hatsune Miku(CV01*) was released Crypton Future Media released Kagamine Rin & Len(CV02) in December 27, 2007 a japanese female and a male Vocaloid, their voices were provided by Asami Shimoda a japanese seiyū and actress, which isn't uncommon since young boys are often dubbed by adult females.
People often think Rin & Len were twins or just siblings, which is not true, according to their names (Kagami - Mirror, Ne - Sound, Rin which does not mean right but stands for it and Len for left) Rin and Len are mirror reflections of eachother.

*CV = consonant-vowel, it means that the voicebank is based on consonants followed by a vowel or single vowels:
ki ka ke ko ku ha he hi ho hu sa se si so su etc. just like japanese syllables (see here)

In the most of the VocaRock songs Hatsune Miku's voice is more or less modded and is called Hagane Miku (Hagane - Steel).

About Hatsune Miku

Hatsune Miku (初音ミク) is a singing synthesizer application and its female character, developed by Crypton Future Media. It uses Yamaha Corporation's Vocaloid synthesizing technology. Her voice is sampled from Japanese seiyuu (voice actress) Saki Fujita.

Crypton released the first of their "Character Vocal Series", Hatsune Miku, on August 31, 2007.
On April 30, 2010, an updated version of Miku called Hatsune Miku Append was released containing a package of six different tones of Miku's voice:
  • Soft (gentle, delicate voice)
  • Sweet (young, chibi voice)
  • Dark (mature, heartbroken-like voice)
  • Vivid (bright, cheerful voice)
  • Solid (loud, clear voice)
  • Light (innocent, heavenly voice)
This was the first time a Vocaloid has such a release and more Append are reported from Crypton Future Media at later dates.
